Curious to learn more about invisible braces? Your top 5 FAQS answered by Boston Orthodontics
If you are an adult who has misaligned teeth, it is likely to impact negatively on your confidence.
Whether you avoided having braces as a child or simply developed dental issues later in life, having a crooked grin can make everyday activities uncomfortable, leading you to look for a way to resolve it.
Luckily, there is no longer the need to wear a metal brace (unless your misalignment is severe or complex) and today, there are invisible and clear braces that can help you get the straighter smile you want and deserve.
At Boston Orthodontics, we can offer a number of clear and invisible braces Wimpole Street, catering to every type of misalignment you can think of. For more mild cases, we can provide Invisalign. If you need something a bit more personalised, we have the Inman aligner and of course, if you need more substantial treatment, we even have Incognito braces. After all, braces are what we do!
But back to the invisible braces Wimpole Street that we offer; are you curious to learn more about them? Read on!
What issues can they treat?
As briefly mentioned earlier most invisible braces Wimpole Street that we offer, like Invisalign, can correct mild to moderate misalignments.
If you have gaps, protrusions, crowding or even bite issues that don’t involve the molars, these braces are perfect for you.
How do they work without wires?
Before you begin wearing Invisalign, a scan will be taken of your mouth; this will create an image that will be used to print a set of aligners.
Worn in a sequential order, these aligners will gently apply pressure to your teeth, moving them into their new positions; each aligner is worn for roughly 2 weeks and when the aligner feels loose, it is time to move onto the next one.
It is important to not ‘skip’ an aligner, as this can cause your teeth to relapse into their former positions.
Are the aligners uncomfortable?
Sadly, there is no such thing as a totally comfortable brace or aligner and with Invisalign, there will be a feeling of pressure when you begin wearing each new aligner.
To combat this, we recommend using over-the-counter pain relief, such as ibuprofen or paracetamol. However, if you are concerned about the level of discomfort that you are experiencing, contact our team for an assessment and we will conduct an examination.
How long will I need to wear them for?
The length of your treatment will depend on the issue being corrected and its severity. On average, Invisalign takes between 6-9 months to straighten teeth.
In order for this brace to work, you will need to wear it for a minimum of 22 hours each day.
Can I play sports while wearing them?
You can, but we would recommend placing the aligner in its carry case for such events.
These braces, while durable, can become irreversibly damaged and the last thing we want is for you to need a replacement aligner made, slowing down the entire treatment process.
